At this stage of thinking you must begin to take your Goal Guide and plug in systems for the more complicated aspects of your business. As you grow you will notice that marketing, accounting and customer service begin to take a lot of time in the ultimate scheme of things. These are not things that a successful business owner can juggle when the business grows to a certain level. Time is a commodity that you cannot extend or duplicate so you must find ways to delegate these items to a system or another person. The important thing is never bend your end goal to fit into where your business is. If you fall into this trap you will create a monster that controls everything you do. Instead, form all of your systems and the decisions you make to fit into your vision and end result. Remember, you can add to and take away from the Goal Guide as your business grows. As employees and customers are added you have to make sure each system is strong enough to stand on its own so that you can step away without worrying about any part of your business suffering. Formulate a plan to make sure you ALWAYS charge enough for new customers, even if that means starting a customer off at a higher price (especially when you are unsure of the time needed to complete the job)
, then lowering their price later to make sure the first cleanings weren't losing money. This seems scary but it is VITAL to ensuring there is enough cash flow to cover all of your expenses and the salary that you need. Once you have a decent customer base and a few employees to support you, your Goal Guide will be evolving into a necessary form to get you to the next stage as long as you haven't changed your Vision or End Result.
Cleaning Businesses that are Established
Wow! Now you are getting into the big leagues. You are becoming a real business with real people making real money. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to think about in order to dominate your market is your Vision and End Result. Even if you get off a little bit and make a decision based off of what is best for the moment it could completely derail the ultimate plan and send your company down a dangerous path. Many companies have fallen down after a few years because they climbed the ladder with silly decisions that helped moments of weakness rather than concentrating on a clear Vision. Your Goal Guide will more than likely be a document that has tons of ideas surrounding thought out steps to achieve a clear end result. This is what should drive you each day that you operate your cleaning company. These thoughts should permeate your mind when you get stressed out and you feel like quitting. This is ultimately what people call their "DREAM" and you can call it whatever you want...as long as you don't ever forget it.
Too many people lose focus, don't have a clear vision, end result, Goal Guide or much of anything to think about. Even if you have been in business for a while and you have none of these, you should plan on getting these in place very soon. These aren't important so that your business will make money, they are important so that your thinking is clear and when it gets a little foggy you have a master plan or "road map" to bring your mind back to the place it needs to be in order to achieve your "Dream".
This is just a small piece of the puzzle when it comes to your thinking and where it should be in your day-to-day. However, I am convinced from my own experience that this is the most important part. If the Captain of the ship doesn't think clearly and focus on the clear destination that he has planned on reaching, then more than likely he won't make it.
